The aim of the module is to help motivated students to learn mathematical topics of their choice largely on their own.
For a group or groups of between two and six students to learn an advanced topic in Mathematics under the guidance of a member of staff. Students with an interest in a particular topic should initially approach a suitable member of staff and agree an area of study. Before submitting the option form a 'Proforma for participation' should be completed (available from the office). The students will be expected to proceed largely independently of the staff member in charge in working through material from a set text (possibly a review paper or advanced textbook), and to lead seminars on particular topics.
There may be more than one group of students doing this module with different topics under different supervisors, but each student may take this module only once.
