This short non-accredited course is pitched at CEFR level A2+ and is designed for students with a basic knowledge of German who wish to maintain and improve their current knowledge of the language. The course welcomes students who have previously learnt German in different ways, including through formal courses, short stays in German-speaking countries and students who have learnt German informally in various ways. Over the course of eight weeks, students will have the opportunity to practise listening, speaking, reading and writing around different topics and to improve their understanding of cultural aspects in the German-speaking world.

This course provides students with a basic knowledge of German to maintain and improve their current skills in this language in the context of everyday situations. It will focus on developing a communicative competence level, to about A2+ level standard of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Students will engage, individually and/or in groups, in communicative activities and tasks emphasising three modes of communication:
reception activities (oral, audio-video and reading comprehension);
production activities (oral and written production);
interaction activities (oral, written and online interaction).
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
communicate confidently about personal information, employment and everyday matters both verbally and in writing;
apply adequate techniques to produce short, simple texts including descriptive texts, routines and opinions;
understand a variety of texts used in everyday life and apply techniques to use them appropriately for practical purposes, when relevant;
communicate effectively in everyday social exchanges;
recognise and apply cultural conventions associated with everyday social exchanges (e.g. different greetings, rituals)
understand and discuss relevant cultural topics and discuss them in pairs and in large groups.

Since this is a non-accredited course, assessment will be formative, with a focus on providing students feedback and feedforward opportunities. Students who attend 75% of seminars will receive a certificate of completion.
