Module summary

The course is aimed at the following group of learners:

  • Students with AS level or equivalent experience of German
  • Students who have successfully completed an LFA Level 2 class

Module aims

The key aim of the course is to extend your language skills in all skill areas (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and improve confidence with the aim of communicating more effectively in German on a selected range of topics. Grammar revision will form part of the course to help improve accuracy and style.

Module learning outcomes

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the gist of selected written and spoken sources
  • Express your opinions confidently on a wide range of topics of interest to participants
  • Speak and write more accurately (e.g. essays, CVs, application letters).

Module content

A communicative approach will be used throughout the course with an emphasis on speaking in real-life situations. 

The course is textbook based, please see resources. During the course, your tutor will provide you with extra materials.

Module feedback

Students will receive feedback on their formative open paper no later than week 3 of term 2. Individual feedback forms convey information on levels of attainment and advice for improvement on each section of the exam: reading comprehension, grammar and writing.

In addition, regular homework tasks provide opportunities for individual ongoing feedback on achievement and progress.
