The course is aimed at those with a good basic level of competence in Italian. Students at this level may have a GCSE, they may have equivalent knowledge acquired on a similar course or whilst spending time in Italy. The course is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, staff and members of the public.

This course is designed to extend your language abilities in all skill areas (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and improve confidence, with the aim of increasing your ability to understand and communicate. The course aims at enabling you to become more independent in the use of Italian by guiding you through this crucial intermediate stage of language learning. You will also be introduced to a wider range of verb tenses and grammatical structures.
At the end of the course you will be able to:
A communicative approach will be used throughout the course with an emphasis on real-life situations. Grammar will be taught in context and general terms. To support your studies, you will need to obtain a textbook (see Reading and resources).

Students will receive feedback on their formative open paper no later than week 3 of term 2. Individual feedback forms convey information on levels of attainment and advice for improvement on each section of the exam: reading comprehension, grammar and writing.
In addition, regular homework tasks provide opportunities for individual ongoing feedback on achievement and progress.
