Module summary

This course is aimed at students with a very high level of competence in German, having completed post A-Level studies and/ or prolonged stays in a German-speaking country. The course is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as members of staff and the public.

Module aims

The main aim of the course is to enable you to develop your language skills in all skill areas (listening, speaking, reading, writing) even further so that you are able to communicate in German at a very high level, using the language accurately and creatively in a wide range of difficult contexts.

Module learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Obtain information, ideas or opinions from linguistically difficult sources and use them actively
  • Understand a wide range of linguistically difficult sources and/ or regional accents
  • Give information and express your views in an accurate and creative manner both orally and in writing.

Module content

Grammar and structures will be revised and taught in context as well as general terms. The exact nature of the grammar covered on this course will largely depend on students’ needs. All materials used are authentic and up-to-date. The class will be conducted in German.

Module feedback

Students will receive feedback on their formative open paper no later than week 3 of term 2. Individual feedback forms convey information on levels of attainment and advice for improvement on each section of the exam: reading comprehension, grammar and writing.

In addition, regular homework tasks provide opportunities for individual ongoing feedback on achievement and progress.
