In this module you will develop a sense of intercultural awareness and an understanding of the impact the Hispanic creative industries have at local, regional and global scales. Through the analysis of case studies, you will examine cultural wealth, collaborations and opportunities that Spanish-speaking countries are disseminating worldwide. You will be required to engage in an interdisciplinary learning experience when studying intersectional dimensions of the industry, such as intercultural productions, leadership, distribution and consumer behaviour.

This module will help you to gain an understanding of the transcultural influence of the Cultural Creative Industries (CCI) such as film, television, video, music, performing arts, publishing, visual arts, and social media in Spanish-speaking countries. Through the analysis of case studies, you will develop a critical insight into the impact of the sector at local, regional, and global levels, as well as the ability to reflect upon your own practice and skills within a wider cultural context. Learning will be complemented with external engagement activities.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
explain the evolution of transnational exchanges and collaborations of the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) Is between Spanish-speaking countries and the rest of the world.
give a critical account of the evolution of cultural trends concerning the creative sector in Spanish-speaking societies;
understand international trends in governmental support to the creative industries as well as aspects of regulations, management, financing, consumer behaviour and distribution processes;
undertake in-depth critical analysis of case studies illustrating how CCIs in the Hispanic World engage in transnational and collaborative exchanges and partnerships.

Overview of the creative industries in the Hispanic world.
Global trends in sub-sectors of the creative industries.
Outlooks of regulations, monetisation, management and distribution of artistic productions.
Cultural trends in media consumption.
Diversity, stereotypes, class and representation.
Hispanic countries and worldwide collaborations in the creative industries.
The role of the sector in achieving the world’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The formative work, although it is a group presentation whereas the final summative will be an individual essay, will allow students to practise and reflect on structure, content, quality of research and argumentation style applied to case study analysis.
Feedback will be given in written form.
For summative assessment, feedback will be provided in written form in line with standard University turnaround times (i.e., within 25 days of submission for summative assessment).
