Module summary

This module will develop your competencies in management, applied specifically to language projects (translation, interpreting etc.). You will study key principles of general and project management, and learn to apply these through simulated real-world scenarios and problem-based learning. Important secondary topics such as negotiation and conflict resolution will naturally complement these key principles in the scheme of work.

Module aims

This module aims to equip you as a future language professional with the skills and tools you need to become competent in your managerial practice. Drawing on the assumption that a successful language expert should also be an efficient project manager, this module incorporates relevant insight from a wide range of materials written by experienced translators, interpreters and management professionals.

Module learning outcomes

After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • understand the key principles of general and project management,
  • competently and confidently apply management tools and techniques to language projects,
  • demonstrate effective planning of complex language projects,
  • implement relevant technologies in support of management workflows,
  • demonstrate proficiency in the skills which accompany sound management (e.g. negotiation).
