Module will run
Occurrence | Teaching period |

A | Spring Term 2022-23 |
Module aims
- Building on the modules Basic Glass Handling and Introduction to Stained Glass Conservation and History and Theory of Stained Glass Conservation, and the experience of the studio placement, the latest developments in glass conservation technique will be introduced and investigated according to both theoretical and practical approaches. The course will be organised thematically: for example analysis and research, glass as material, paint layers, cleaning techniques, lead and static systems, etc.. Practical exercises and experiments by the students will accompany each topic. The seminar programme is complemented by the assignment to each student of an autonomous conservation project, implemented throughout the term and Easter vacation. During the course described here students will be considering their M.A. dissertations, which will then be carried forward in the following summer term.
- Students will be assessed by submission of documentation of their practical project and and accompanying essay. The integration of visiting lecturers through the programme of master-classes, will keep the course up-to-date in the very latest developments for the field of glass painting conservation, and will provide valuable opportunities for the discussion of new research
