Your programme of study is governed by a range of policies and regulations. This page introduces you to the most relevant policies that will affect your time studying on one of the York Online programmes.
As members of the University of York, students on the York Online programmes agree to accept and abide by the University’s Ordinances and Regulations, which govern awards, academic standards, and student discipline.
York Online students are also subject to most other student policies that relate to Postgraduate Taught programmes.
There are also a number of student policies that have been designed specifically to support students studying on the York Online programmes. These policies recognise the unique context of the online teaching model, and are designed to support a high-quality student experience. Where these policies override an equivalent University-wide policy, this has been flagged.

Managing your studies
York Online Registration, Absence and Engagement Policy
This policy covers enrolment, module registration, taking a break from study, and payment of fees. It supersedes information regarding Leave of Absence that is laid out in the Special Cases Progress Cases Policy.
York Online Fit to Sit / Submit Policy
This policy lays out when you can request mitigation (such as deadline extensions) for assessments. It replaces the University’s Exceptional Circumstances policy for any taught modules delivered on the programmes.
York Online Repeat Study Policy
This policy outlines when York Online students may be permitted to repeat module(s) that they have previously completed. It supersedes information regarding Repeat Study in the Special Cases Progress Cases Policy.
Student Tuition Fee Refund Policy
If you are withdrawing or taking a break from your studies, you will need to know how your change of plan affects your tuition fees. This policy explains how fees are recalculated and when students are eligible for a refund.
