Emergency support on campus
Campus Safety is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - if it's urgent, call 01904 32 3333 or download the SafeZone app for a quick response to any security or safety issue on campus.
Vacation runs from Monday 7 April until Monday 21 April 2025 (inclusive).
Staff and some services may have limited availability during University closure days over Easter bank holiday weekend (Friday 18 April to Monday 21 April 2025 inclusive). Semester restarts on Tuesday 22 April 2025.
Before you leave, don't forget to:
Stay connected with the Virtual Private Network (VPN) or the Virtual Desktop Service (VDS). Find out more about working off-campus.
IT Support is open as normal over the Easter vacation but will close for the bank holiday weekend.
If you’re staying in campus accommodation over the vacation, cleaning, maintenance and reception services mostly remain the same; however there is no cleaning service or Facilities Helpdesk over the bank holiday weekend. Emergencies can still be reported via Campus Safety (details above).
For non-emergencies, if your receptionist is not available over the vacation, please use the phone (usually red) in your college foyer to contact Campus Safety. Alternatively, dial 01904 32 4444 (or 4444 from any internal telephone) or use the SafeZone app.
Retail and catering outlet opening times change during the vacation - visit Eat, drink and shop at York opening times or the MyUoY app to see what is open and when.
See the MyUoY app or student events for events and activities taking place over the vacation - college events are open to all students during the vacation, regardless of which college you belong to.
There are changes to bus services from Sunday 6 April until Saturday 19 April 2025. University bus services U1 and U2 will be running a reduced non-term timetable. Services U3, U4 and UN1 will not be running.
We are operating a limited opening or closure programme across a number of buildings on campus over the vacation to help reduce costs and our carbon footprint. However, this will not affect most buildings that students use - communal student areas such as the Library and sports centres will remain open.
Derwent College and Goodricke College common rooms are open everyday from 9am to 5pm for you to meet other people staying on campus and relax. Not all college common rooms are open - check with your college to see if yours is available.
Careers and Placements vacation opening is Monday to Thursday, 10am to 3pm. They are closed for the bank holiday on Monday 21 April 2025.
The Library is open, as usual, between 8am and midnight throughout the vacation (including over the bank holiday weekend). The Library Helpdesk is open Monday-Friday 10am - 4pm for queries in person, on the phone or via chat; weekends are self-service only.
One-to-one academic writing, maths and study coaching appointments continue over the break.
Keep up with your reading list via the Library’s e-resources and check out our online skills guides.
Wellbeing support wherever you are
The Student Hub is open as normal over the break, though it will be closed for the bank holiday weekend.
Our usual sources of wellbeing help and support are still available over the break, including Campus Safety. The Open Door team operates 9am-5pm vacation opening hours.
