The service allows students who are currently in China to connect to Google Workspace and other university services. It was introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic to help students working from China but will no longer be supported in the UK from September 2024.
IT Services have worked hard to try and find an appropriate alternative service however none are available.
If you are working or studying from China and need to access university services not usually accessible there, you’ll now need to do this via the virtual desktop service (VDS). The VDS provides you with a secure way to access the applications on your University desktop as well as your filestore.
To access new messages in your university Gmail account, we recommend setting up email forwarding to your personal email address (please note this won’t allow you to see messages received before the email forwarding was set up).
If you have any questions about this work or using the virtual desktop service (VDS) please contact IT Services.
