In discussions with colleagues, stakeholders, staff and student unions, we have established that the most effective way to meet the needs of staff and students is to permanently close the receptions at Wentworth, Alcuin, Derwent, and James. Instead we will run a larger reception hub at the Information Centre, next to Vanbrugh college and a satellite reception continuing in the normal location at Halifax College.
This will be a change for some staff and students who use the impacted receptions regularly, however we hope that over time it will help to improve our reception support services, which have been under strain from low staffing levels and last-minute closures for a while.
The two reception locations on Campus West will continue to offer the same reception services as those that are to be closed. Plus, under the new hub based model, staff will be able to move more flexibly across campus to meet demand, and will also be able to be more mobile in general, helping to support members of the community with accessibility issues or safety concerns.
The closure dates for impacted receptions are as follows:
From these dates, please use the reception hub at the Information Centre or Halifax College. Please note, there will be no changes to receptions on Campus East.
We are now working with staff across the impacted areas to facilitate the moves, and to ensure that students are provided with information on their nearest reception before joining us. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make these changes.
