We had 2,163 student responses, which was phenomenal - thank you to everyone who took the time to complete it.
As a snapshot, we know 32% of students are very satisfied or satisfied, 28% are neutral, and 40% are very dissatisfied or dissatisfied. We’re, therefore, committed to doing what we can to improve your experience of Check-In.
Here’s how we’re working on your suggestions:
Improved email content
We’ve worked with York SU sabbatical officers and others in the student wellbeing team to make sure our emails are supportive and helpful.
Including online recordings of lectures
We are investigating ways in which to embed Panapto (Lecture Capture) into Check-In as a future development of the system.
Integrate with the VLE
As of September 2024, Check-In will be able to see the last date and time of your login to the VLE to assist with decision making surrounding wellbeing and engagement. Future suggestions for integration are also being considered.
View own attendance
From September 2024, all students who are in the scope of Check-In, will have access to their engagement timeline. You can view this by logging into checkin.york.ac.uk and going to self registration.
Introduce QR codes
From September 2024, QR codes are now available to use in Check-In.
Add Check-In to induction
This year, Check-In formed part of induction and orientation to provide awareness of the system and its function. We also used it for induction events and we are considering how we can use it for other wellbeing focused events in the future.
Check-In before the official start of a class
This is possible. Staff members can populate a six digit or QR code before the teaching event to decrease any disruption.
Unfortunately, there are some areas from your feedback where we can’t make changes. Here’s why:
We need to use Duo 2FA as a security measure
Duo (also known as Two-factor authentication) provides an additional layer of security when you log on to our University IT systems from any device. It's really important that we keep this security in place. To make it easier to access, consider saving the password and logging in to devices using a secure key.
We need to send engagement emails
We understand that there are many reasons students might miss a Check-In milestone, and that most students will catch up in other ways. However Check-In communications help us to support the wellbeing of those students who may be struggling, and need additional support to achieve their learning goals. In Semester 2, we are identifying ways to reach out to students who may be struggling earlier.
