The Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN), based at the University of York is making Yorkshire and the Humber the UK’s hub for digital creativity, and a model of diverse and inclusive activity. The network connects companies, support agencies and universities through a programme of training, business development, research and evaluation.
Developed as a joint venture between SIGN and the University library, the new Creativity lab will offer opportunities for businesses, academics and students interested in digital creativity to play with and learn about emerging technologies.
Based in the Harry Fairhurst Building, the Lab will offer a mixture of masterclasses, residences and practical kit workshops to offer attendees opportunities such as in-depth exploration of specific areas of digital creativity, training from industry experts and introductory workshops to support users acquiring and applying new skills. Equipped with facilities including high-end gaming workstations, creative editing software and equipment to allow users to explore Augmented Reality, 3D design, podcasting, 360 filming, VR and more, it will offer a vibrant and accessible space for tech support and learning.
If you want to find out more about the Creativity Lab, join the team at their 'Lab Launch Day' taking place in the lab on Tuesday 1st November, 10am - 4pm in the Creativity Lab LFA/103 and the Library’s new makerspace - YorCreate LFA/132. No need to book, just drop by to meet the team and get hands on with some of the kit.
Explore the range of events and training sessions available throughout the year. York staff and students can also join Fortnightly DigiCreate sessions, an ideal opportunity to work on your own project, develop your ideas or just play with and learn more about emerging technology.
