Next Step York and YorWay to York are programmes for Year 12 (or equivalent) and Year 13 students providing opportunities to explore university options and receive specialist support with their current studies. The programmes are aimed at pupils who have the potential to progress to university but have experienced barriers (such as household income, refugee/asylum seekers, students who have experienced the care system etc) that may prevent them from accessing higher education.
This role is centred around being student-led, by students for students. As a Student Supporters, you will be the first point of contact for student participants. You will provide bespoke support via an online platform to empower participants to engage with and get the most out of the opportunities available to them, including building their personalised programme and considering how activities will inform their next steps. You will develop a personal working relationship with each of your assigned students and will play a key role in the team in ensuring students actively participate and develop a personal relationship with the University of York.
Student Supporters will also lead virtual “College” groups, in pairs, on a monthly basis. You will work with the students to develop activities, create presentations (which will be delivered at the campus conference) and run fun social activities. Each “College” will have a unique identity and will develop their name (this could be anything from Beyonce College to Sir David Attenborough College).
Student Supporters will be paid the Student Ambassador rate per hour: £9.77/hr plus holiday pay for a total of £10.95/hr.
