Observing Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day, on Wednesday 11 November, is a time to think about everyone who has suffered because of war.

The University invites you all, wherever you are, to stop what you are doing at 11am to observe a two-minute silence in memory of those who have lost their lives or had their lives affected by war. If you decide not to accept this invitation, we ask you to respect those who do wish to take part.


On Sunday 8 November, the Vice-Chancellor, Charlie Jeffery and YUSU President Patrick O’Donnell met at York’s war memorial to lay two wreaths of poppies on behalf of all members of the University community. 


As many of you will be aware, Remembrance Day parades across the country have been cancelled this year and the Royal British Legion who organise the annual Poppy Appeal have fewer volunteers able to sell poppies this year.
