Additional wellbeing support: coming to a department near you

Posted on 6 March 2020

In an investment of more than half a million pounds per year, the University Executive Board has approved the introduction of 13 additional student wellbeing support staff.

Ten Student Wellbeing Officers will be based in geographical zones across campus and embedded in academic departments. These new posts will be supported and managed by an additional three Open Door Practitioners.

The main purpose is:

  • to put in place an inclusive model of support across academic departments that encompasses student welfare and wellbeing;
  • to increase the level of dedicated advice and support available to students within academic departments;
  • to ensure our students receive a more holistic approach to their support.

Benefits

This new wellbeing model has many benefits including:

  • an increase in overall student wellbeing support with the addition of 13 staff;
  • more accessible support for students as the new Student Wellbeing Officers will be based in departments;
  • a more consistent experience for students as the new staff will all have the same training, job descriptions and be managed by Open Door.

The Student Wellbeing Officer roles will be advertised soon. It is anticipated that the new structure will be in place for the new 2020/21 academic year.
