21 University bands will compete at the York Barbican this Saturday to win the UniBrass Trophy and Shield!
Trophy hopefuls will pull out all the stops to impress Sandy Smith and Alex Kenyon and the Shield section will be adjudicated by Helen Varley and Chris Bradley.
European Youth Brass Band Champions, Elland Silver Youth Band will open the results ceremony and provide a glimpse at the exciting future of banding!
After the contest day, the critically acclaimed ensemble Tubular Brass will perform a Gala Concert featuring a programme of prog rock music and Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells. The concert will start at 7.30pm.
UniBrass 2018 will also feature education workshops with Owen Farr. Open to all players of roughly grade 3 playing ability and above, these free workshops will be running Saturday 17 February 10.30am-2.30pm at the University of York and will focus on the test piece ‘Land of the Long White Cloud’. Those taking part will have the chance to perform in a short lunchtime concert at the York Barbican at the UniBrass Contest! For an extra bonus, participants will be able to watch the rest of the UniBrass contest for free and will be able to purchase discounted tickets for the Gala Concert, the phenomenal Tubular Brass!
