If everyone on the planet lived the same way as people in Western Europe we would need three planets to support us. One Planet Living provides a framework of ten principles by which we can all work to live within the resources of our planet.
Along with other cities across the UK and worldwide, York has adopted the principles of One Planet, and the University has organised One Planet Week to help you get involved.
Make a pledge with our simple pledges form to say what you will do to make our planet more sustainable.
You can see how many pledges your college and department have made on our pledges page.
There will be loads of events, including a vintage clothing fair, an ethical food fair, a low-carbon bake competition, and talks on sustainability from a range of speakers. We have several competitions and there are lots of really great prizes to win. Check out our events calendar on Facebook (@UoYOnePlanet) and see what you can get involved in.
The theme of the week is 'Local and sustainable food'. Come along to hear our guest speaker, Professor Simon McQueen-Mason, give his talk, "Can we make fuel from crop waste?". 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
Colleges and departments are getting involved. Make your pledge to reduce CO2 and if your college or department has the most pledges you'll be entered in a prize draw.
Go to the One Planet Week webpage to find out more or visit Sustainable York to find out how you as a student can live more sustainably.
