Payments 2024/25

You should pay for your on campus accommodation as soon as you receive your student funding. The deadlines for each instalment are:

  • 31 January 2025
  • 30 April 2025

To find out exactly how much you need to pay visit the accommodation hub.

Make it easy

The easiest way to pay for your accommodation is by Direct Debit, but you can also make payments online using e:Vision, which gives you the option to pay by card or make international payments using Flywire. You can also make use of our online payment service. We do not accept cash payments for accommodation fees.

Set up your Direct Debit by 30 September 2024 and we'll calculate the payments for you. You will be debited on the three instalment dates set in October, January and April.

Parents and guardians

If you're a parent or guardian wanting to pay the rent of a student, the simplest way is to set up a direct debit.

You can also make a payment via our online payments service. You'll need the student's ID number (found on the back of their University card) for online payments.

  • If you would like to speak to us about a student's payment information, you'll need to make sure that they have given us consent to do so, either when they made their application, or via an email to accommodation@york.ac.uk

You may also make a bank transfer - you should include the student ID number and family name in the reference information.

We do not accept payments over the phone.

The easy way

The easiest way to make sure you pay for everything on time is to set up a direct debit. Once your direct debit is set up, your bank will automatically calculate and pay the exact amount due on each instalment date.

If you are paying manually

If you are making one off payments, the simplest way to see what you need to pay is by logging in to the accommodation hub and clicking 'review my accepted offer'. On the next page you will see your three rent instalment dates and how much you need to pay for each.

You can see a full breakdown of your charges by logging into your e:Vision.

If you would like an invoice of what you have paid, you can request one by emailing accommodation@york.ac.uk.

If you are making an online payment it may taker up to 24 hours for your payment to go through. International payments may take longer.

Yes. If you would like to pay all of your accommodation fees in one payment, please make sure you write that the payment is for your accommodation fees in the payment reference box.

  • We'll aim to email you at least a week before your rent instalment date is due, but you should make sure to familiarise yourself with the payment due dates.
  • If you are paying by direct debit, you'll receive an email 10 days before the money is taken out of your account. It can take up to a week for a direct debit transfer to process.
  • If you haven't paid, or have missed a payment date, you will receive an email reminder from the fees office seven days later.

Bursaries and disability funding

The accommodation bursary gets paid automatically towards your accommodation fees on the payment dates.

If you have set up a direct debit, any extra you need to pay after your bursary will be calculated automatically. It will also ensure that you don't accidentally overpay accommodation fees

Find more information about receiving your award, plus FAQs, on the bursaries and scholarships page.

If your application is approved we’ll reduce your room price from the price to the equivalent price of shared bathroom accommodation within the same price band.

For example: If we offered you a premium ensuite room, you would only have to pay the rent of a premium shared bathroom.

You won’t receive a direct monetary payment. Instead we’ll credit your accommodation account with any amount you have overpaid and adjust your room price for future charges.

For example: If we offered you a band 3 ensuite room for £24.61 per night*, we’d only charge you for a band 3 shared bathroom (£22.25 per night*). We would adjust your rent payments by £2.36 per night difference for the duration of your contract.

*prices given using 2023/24 figure for example only
