Making a claim
In the event of loss or damage to property, contact the Insurance Office immediately who will provide guidance and assistance.
The following information should be gathered as soon as practically possible:
- date of loss, circumstances, when discovered and supposed cause
- description of property involved
- what immediate action was taken
- extent of loss/damage and remedial works required
- identity of police officers involved and crime reference number, where applicable
- estimate of loss
- photograph the damage if substantial
- document the loss as soon as expenses are incurred
- maintain a descriptive record of events and work undertaken
- collate all remedial costs
- ensure that contractors' accounts fully describe the works undertaken
An accident report should also be completed where applicable.
The deductible on the property policy is £35,000 per claim, other than under the following policy extensions:
- £10,000 for deterioration of stock
- £2,500 under the contract works policy extension
The computer policy provides reimbursement of the replacement cost of an equivalent machine or equipment. The excess applying to the computer policy is £5,000 per claim.
Please note costs incurred for property damage below the policy excesses are on a self-insured basis and need to be met by the Faculty/Department.
