Business Development

We provide support to grow industry engagement, working with external partners to build relationships and internally with stakeholders to support industry focused activities.

The Business Development (BD) Team has a keen understanding of market trends, industry dynamics, and bridging gaps. We work to develop collaboration opportunities with industry partners to maximise impact through collaborative and contract research, consultancy and continuing professional development (CPD).

Commercialising research opportunities requiring intellectual property (IP), licensing and spinout support are managed by the commercialisation team.

How we work

We support academics and researchers across all Departments, Schools and Institutes at the University. We have created resources to align with the Sciences, Social Sciences and Arts and Humanities faculties. This is delivered by supporting projects and activities that align with industry sectors.

Our structure is based on dual-layered approach, consisting of internal support and developing external relationships.

External relationships

To build and develop external relationships we forge connections and identify business development opportunities by collaborating with industry partners.

We actively engage with external stakeholders, such as multinationals, large businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). We build relationships with these industry partners to engage in collaborations that deliver impact and drive growth through research expertise, knowledge exchange, technologies and innovation.

Internal support focuses on providing support to internal stakeholders, including Faculties, Schools, Institutes, Departments, and academics. We help those with the academic expertise to develop opportunities and propositions which will deliver research impact and meet industry needs.

We support delivery in the following growth areas:

In these areas, we provide the development tools, process information and give guidance to facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange with industry partners.
