Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a widely-recognised term for the learning activities professionals undertake to develop and enhance their skills and is aimed at both employers and employees within organisations. It ensures that both academic and practical qualifications do not become outdated, allowing individuals to continually develop their professional abilities. This can include short or long courses that are credit or non-credit bearing ie count towards a larger qualification.

The University has a dedicated CPD team, who can assist in developing, marketing, and administering courses developed by academic staff. CPD is an excellent tool for developing impact from research. Professional staff trained using the research from the University can have immediate benefit on those staff, their organisation and generate secondary benefits for any clients of those trained.

The CPD team will assist academics in to commercialise their course by understanding the potential market; the size and number of possible businesses, whether there is an international reach, and how to differentiate the course from others in the market. The team can also assist with funding to develop a course, targeted customer contact and to create materials or to advertise the course to potential clients.
