Use of Artificial Intelligence in Research

University Research Committee (URC) has established a Task and Finish Group to consider the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Research with a particular focus on generative AI. This group is developing guidelines for the responsible use of generative AI in the research process. Guidance and advice will be issued in due course and published on this page.

In the meantime, if considering using AI as part of the research process, consideration should be given to the following policies:

• Code of Practice on Research Integrity

• Code of Practice and Principles for Good Ethical Governance

• Research Misconduct Policy and Procedure

Please also consider policies on AI from funders, publishers, partners or other parties, as relevant to the work you are undertaking.
