Katiana Le Mentec was awarded a prestigious Braudel fellowship, held at the University of York between March and November 2014. With a doctorate in Social Anthropology from the Univesity of Paris West, Nanterre, Katiana is an expert in Chinese anthropological research. She worked with Professor Sharon Macdonald on a project on the public exhibition of the Three Gorges Dam forced migration, Chongqing.
Gül Çorbacıoğlu - Visiting researcher from the Middle East Technical University, Gül's research interests are in the areas of sociology of health and medicine, sociology of work and organization and sociology of professions (medical profession in specific). Iwona Machoczek, Researcher from Technical University Darmstadt, Germany, visits Sociology/ SATSU November 2011. Funded by the COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) Action ‘Bio-objects’. Iwona’s visit centred on the dissemination and development of research concerning umbilical cord blood banking in Germany, which she conducted for her diploma thesis, entitled, ‘Cord Blood - an Analysis of the Social Issues During the Extraction, Conservation and Practice’. Whilst here she presented her work during SATSU’s Autumn term brown bag seminar series and also explored synergies between her own research findings and those of Sociology’s Nik Brown (SATSU).
Dr Koichi Mikami, University of Tokyo, visited SATSU on a number of occasions in 2010 and 2012 to discuss his work on the sociology of the biosciences. As a result of these visits he has developed a research proposal in collaboration with SATSU to examine scientific challenges in the field of rare diseases and the ways in which these create quite specific ethical and clinical dilemmas for all concerned.

Prof Mary Holmes, Mary Holmes is Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia. She has a PhD and BA from the University of Auckland (New Zealand), and did the Masters in Women's Studies at York in 1989/90. She is a visiting professor at the CWS 2010-2011.
