Annette Spellerberg was born in Bad Driburg, Germany (1960) and received her training in sociology, psychology and education science at the Free University of Berlin (Diploma 1987; PhD 1995 on lifestyles and quality of life).
She worked as a researcher at the FU Berlin (1987-1989), at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin (WZB; Social Science Research Center; 1990-1997) and as research assistant at Bamberg University (2000-2002). In the academic year 1997-1998 she was a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences in Stanford, US. From 2002 to 2008 she was an assistant professor and since then full professor of urban sociology at the University of Kaiserslautern.

Annette Spellerberg is author and co-author of six books, nearly 60 articles and nine expert reports. She teaches urban sociology and social theory.
