Research

Overview

Adam’s thesis project involves a programme of semi-structured interviews with residents of the so-called ‘Red Wall’ of historically-Labour supporting towns in the North of England.

Participants are asked who they consider to be ‘the elite’ in British society, and to reflect on how they came to hold those views. The project hopes to shed light on how subjective notions of the elite are mobilised by populist movements. Findings from Adam’s thesis were published by the International Journal of Politics, Culture, and Society.
