Biography

I am Xiaoyu Zhang, who started a PhD study at the Sociology department of the University of York in March 2023. My supervisors are Dr. Clare Jackson and Dr. James Cummings. The focus of my research is to investigate the impact of TV shows and social media on urban Chinese women. The study analyses how social media platforms, particularly ‘Xiaohongshu’, integrate TV show content to shape gender discourse within the internet communities. This study employs thematic analysis and interviews to perform the research.
