Digital Innovations in Prisons

Monday 22 July 2019, 9.00AM

Digital mental health interventions have been shown in the community to be positively received by patients. Health apps can offer affordable, safe and effective means to enable self-management across a range of mental health conditions and could offer innovative in-cell interventions for women and men in prison.

The Manchester Women’s Conference would like to invite you to a two-day conference focused on the use of digital interventions to manage mental health in women’s and men’s prisons. The conference will bring together service users, prison staff, charities and academics to discuss exciting new digital developments. The conference is over two days with the first day consisting of presentations and a second day of workshops.

Confirmed speakers include Nigel Jones, Ministry of Justice, who will talk about the prison digital work stream, Dr Kerry Gutridge and Dr Pauline Whelan, University of Manchester, who will talk about the development of an in-cell self-harm app and Jason Morris, who will talk about the Timewise desistance intervention. The programme also includes a presentation from an expert-by-experience on their perspective on digital interventions in prison. The full programme will follow once all speakers have been confirmed.

Day One presentations on digital interventions to address mental health conditions in prisons.

Day Two workshops showcasing current developments in mental health digital technology.
