A day in the life of a Chief Executive Officer in the United Kingdom

What I do

I manage a company called 'Fuelling the Future'. Very simply, we make sure that people who are enthusiastic about helping others have the opportunity to do so, whilst those who require educational support can access it without paying substantial fees. My main responsibilities involve liaising with clients, recruiting the best tutors, and making sure the company is moving in the right direction.

How I started my business

I became very passionate about the inequalities in education after interning abroad in South America. Using my prior experience as a tutor, I decided to co-found this business with a friend who shares a similar opinion.

What inspired me

I believe that everyone, no matter their finances, deserves the right to receive a high standard of education. This is the mission of Fuelling the Future and it is what inspired me to pursue it.

Skills I use and how I developed them

When running a company, you are responsible for the management of a diverse range of individuals. I have learned how to rectify conflicts, whilst ensuring that everyone involved is satisfied with the outcome. Leadership skills are essential of course, but even more important is the ability to set out a vision and to pursue that; ensuring the business is constantly growing and offering a consistent service that pleases clients and employees alike.

What I like most

I really enjoying meeting new people, and the satisfaction gained by knowledge that your idea is helping people around the country.

What I like least

When there are too many tutors for the number of clients that we may have at a given time. At Fuelling the Future, we have some of the brightest minds working with us, and every single person has high ambition. Knowing that these people do not yet have a client is a downside, however it also motivates us to continuously look for new methods to build up our client pool.

What surprised me most

The power of modern technology. Marketing on social media is a very powerful tool, and it has allowed us to grow very quickly in a short period of time.
