Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?
The archives sector is multi-disciplinary and covers arts, heritage, businesses etc.
Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?
Yes- I then studied for an additional MLitt in Archives and Records Management as this qualification is accredited to become an Archivist.
Describe your most memorable day at work
Encouraging children to be "document detectives" whilst looking at archival sources relating to their town's history.
Accessioning records into the collections relating to my local town.
What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?
Volunteering projects in the heritage sector at York, skills included public speaking, events management, and digital skills.
What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?
Keep an open mind when looking for jobs, try to make contacts and networks, and be willing to start from the bottom to get your foot in the door!
