A day in the life of a Barrister in the United Kingdom
Commercial Barrister
My career goals when I graduated
Get tenancy at a chambers in London.
What has helped my career to progress
Ambition, hard work, and a lot of luck.
Courses taken since graduation
GDL and BPTC.
My advice to students considering work
Get experience of real work at Uni: bar and waitressing work shows a future employer that you can deal with the public, unsociable hours and pressure. Relevant work experience is also a must.
My advice about working in my industry
Get experience of being a barrister and a solicitor as you need to make an informed decision about what sort of legal career you want. If you choose the barrister route, be prepared for stiff academic competition and be realistic about your prospects.

What I do
I am a self-employed barrister specialising in commercial and insolvency law.

Skills I use and how I developed them

What I like most
The freedom of self-employment.
What I like least
Unpredictable hours.
