How I found out about the job

Employer's website

The recruitment process

In the second year of my degree I applied to about 20 firms; did vacation schemes at five of them; and was offered jobs at three.

My career goals when I graduated

I had already secured my training contract before graduation, so at that stage my goal was to pass the LPC!

My career history

Five vacation schemes, three job offers. Then undertook the LPC+ and LL.M, and started work at my firm.

Courses taken since graduation

LL.M Master of Laws in Professional Legal Practice
Legal Practice Course+

Where I hope to be in 5 years

Working as an Associate at my firm

My advice about working in my industry

Law is a very rewarding career. It can be difficult at times and the hours can be long, but at most top firms you will get paid well; be doing the best work; be surrounded by the best people; and constantly be pushing yourself.

Contacting me

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions. I am also a member of my firm's Diversity and Inclusivity Committee so am happy to advise/mentor people who aren't sure whether law is for them and whether they would "fit in".

What I do

Trainee solicitor at a Silver Circle law firm. I am currently on secondment in Singapore in our Project Finance team, where I help manage financing of infrastructure projects across various Asian jurisdictions.

I have previously sat in the Corporate Tax, Contentious Construction, and Real Estate departments at my firm, and am looking forward to qualifying in September 2016.

Skills I use and how I developed them

Legal analysis, client communication, drafting, commercial decision-making, technical research.

What I like most

I enjoy the responsibility and client contact that can come with the role, and being surrounded by people who are at the top of their game.

What I like least

Hours can be long at times and there are occasions when you just have to get stuck in on the basics rather than doing the glamorous work.

What surprised me most

The variation between departments is much greater than I expected. Tax v Tax at two different firms will usually be more similar than Tax v Real Estate at two different firms.
