Briefly describe the organisation you work for

My working place is a higher education institution specialising in teaching and research on education and related disciplines. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. The Hong Kong Metropolitan University ranked no. 9 in Hong Kong and it was formerly called Open University of Hong Kong.

What do you do?

Teaching, experiential learning activities for students, research, and programme administration

Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?

I love doing tertiary education for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?

Working at university is full of challenges as you will find yourselves in demands on teaching, student activities, research and services to the community.

Describe your most memorable day at work

Getting notification from York that I passed the PhD degree in a warm day of May 2012!

Are there any challenges associated with your job?

From beginner, lecturer to a research professor, it's a long road full of challenges!

What’s your work environment and culture like?

Lecture, small group discussions, experiential learning activities for students, doing research outside

What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?

reading, seeing football matches, and hiking

What would you like to do next with your career?

I would like to keep pressing my research and teaching innovations ahead!

What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?

Being global in perspectives and experiences shall help you!
