A day in the life of a Product Manager in China
Studying in the UK improved my communication skills and gave me an international vision
Where I hope to be in 5 years
To learn more, do more and get more.
My advice to students considering work
I think the weak point for international students who are studying abroad and looking for work in their home country is that they may not be very familiar with all the elements of recruitment of the companies in their home country. For example, Chinese companies’ HR departments are big fans of “Leaderless Group Discussion”, and the written exams of recruitment are always administrative aptitude tests (AAT), so the candidates should prepare those things before graduate.
What I do
My job is to help our clients (most of which are very big companies) to issue bonds in the inter-bank market of China. My duties as a product manager are to make sure that all the projects are running smoothly from marketing, to product transaction structure designing, materials preparing and submitting, bond issuing and follow-up management.
Skills I use and how I developed them
The degree and the level of that degree are necessary, and the subject and skills developed on the course helped with my work later on.
Extracurricular skills:
On one hand, the experience of having studied and lived in the UK helped me develope the skills to communicate with people from a variety of backgrounds. On the other hand, studying abroad gave me an international vision that I can easily accept new knowledge from outside
What I like most
When a project is finished, I feel so good that my hard work for about 3 months has paid off.
What I like least
Nation owned company, so many unnecessary things to slow you down
What surprised me most
Relationship with boss is the most important along with skill and loyalty
