Make sure further study is something you are passionate about
Why I continued studying
I wanted to combine my knowledge of psychology with my love for sport, with the hope of becoming a chartered sport and exercise psychologist or working within application of sport psychology to the health sector.
What my course is like
The course covers topics such as attention, anxiety, motivation and flow related to performance in sport. For the second term there is a choice of placements and work on a research project will begin. There is more of a focus on qualitative analysis compared to York, and helps to develop skills such as interviewing. Quantitative analysis is still studied, just in less detail.
What I like most
The research base is strong at LJMU and it's great to have a placement to get an idea of the applied side of the field.
What surprised me most
How much focus was on qualitative rather than quantitative analysis.
My advice to students considering further study
Make sure it's something you're passionate about, contact hours are a lot less and more independent learning is required on the course. However, I don't feel the step up from 3rd year is massive or anything to worry about.
