My career goals when I graduated

Be able to find a job soon after graduating- one that I needed my degree for and that I would also enjoy.

Understand the variety of different jobs that can be applied to from careers information at University.

Courses taken since graduation

N/A

How my studies have helped my career

I can apply analytical skills that I have used when writing essays, and also the statistical skills I delvoped in the Research Methods course.

What surprised me about my career so far

How much I enjoy my job and how much I have developed in a short space of time.

Where I hope to be in 5 years

Developed within the Civil Service and to be a more qualified Analyst.

My advice to students considering work

Keep your options open, and try and apply to as many jobs as possible, even if you think you won't like it it is always worth trying.

My advice about working in my industry

It is an excellent industry to work in, and I find it a pleasure to work for. Workers are treated fairly, and it is extremely flexible.

What I do

I analyse data, such as spend and outcomes, across various condition (cancer, CHD etc.) creating 'packs' for 'CCGs',who fund GPs and hospitals, on their performance on these indicators.

Skills I use and how I developed them

The main programme I use in my role is Excel, and I have developed my skills by using trial and error on formulas and putting them into practice .
I also have used analytical skills in narrative form also, learning how to pick out key bits of information and creating 'stories' from this.

What I like most

Working with an array of different formulas in excel, knowing and learning they best and efficient way to analyse data.

What I like least

Collating data- this can be a bit boring and tedious at times.

What surprised me most

How quickly I have developed and the wide skill set I now have on Excel- I wasn't aware of how complicated it could be and the range of different calculations that can be performed on it.
