A day in the life of a Global Commercial Banking Graduate Trainee in the United Kingdom
There is scope for so many different roles within the banking sector - where you start isn't necessarily where you will stay
My career history
Penultimate year summer internships at Tesco Plc in Finance and Lloyds Banking Group in Commercial Banking.
What has helped my career to progress
My ability to take on new challenges and unprecedented situations has allowed me to progress smoothly
Courses taken since graduation
I am currently a student at the London Institute of Banking and Finance pursuing a Professional Diploma which will award me a fully qualified Chartered Banker status.
How my studies have helped my career
My studies at York have allowed me to apply for graduate jobs, without this I would not have the platform to do so.
What surprised me about my career so far
How understanding employers are of your situation, they understand you are a graduate and won't know everything when you first start.
Where I hope to be in 5 years
No idea yet!
My advice to students considering work
Search and apply early! Align the jobs you apply for with where your skills lie and what you enjoy doing.
My advice about working in my industry
Be open, you never know what might be expected of you.
What I do
Commercial Banking Graduate Trainee
Skills I use and how I developed them
People skills are essential when working in such a large, diverse organisation and this will be useful in the wider industry.
What I like most
The scope within Banking to have varied jobs is immense. Everyone I have spoken to has had largely varying roles in their careers, where you start isn't necessarily where you will stay.
What surprised me most
How welcoming and easy to talk to all my colleagues are, including senior executives.
