A day in the life of a Intern in the United States
International internship opportunity in policy
My advice to students considering work
Be bold be confident and apply apply apply! I must have applied for 100 internships before I got this one. When you do get a lead on an opportunity don't let it slide! P.S do not blame yourself if you don't get an opportunity, remember that it is an unproductive and precarious economy that forces students to desperately compete for unpaid internships! Here's hoping to a future of secure well paid work for all graduates, so even if you do get one, don't forget all those that didn't and respect your luck, privilege as well as hard work in getting one yourself.

What I do
As an Intern at the Institute for Policy Studies office in Boston MA, I was able to have an insight into all aspects of the work place. This included media, reports, admin and project outreach.
Skills I use and how I developed them
I was able to be creative through the creation and development of articles for their website as well as develop team work skills by working in an enthusiastic office.
What I like most
The best part of being an intern at the IPS office is the feeling of being apart of a project that seeks to make the world a better place. Economic inequality, particularly in wealth, is one of the greatest problems of our age, impacting the environment, race, gender, mental health and much more. As such, to be involved in research and publication in this area is something worth waking up for each day. On top of this, working with a group of dedicated young professionals makes the time pass easily and productively.
What I like least
The thing I liked least about my internship was the short nature of its duration!
What surprised me most
What surprised me most about the internship was to see just how high the profile of the office was. During the short period I was there I witnessed top CEO's call the office to debate reports as well as see media publications reach millions all over the world. To be apart of this and shadow colleagues during speeches was not just impressive, it was inspiring.
