A day in the life of a PR Consultant in the United Kingdom

Happy to offer insight into securing a graduate role at global marketing communications agency

How I looked for work

I found this role by signing up to industry specific recruitment websites.

How I found out about the job

Other graduate recruitment website

The recruitment process

Initially I submitted my CV and a cover letter, then received an invitation to the graduate assessment day in April 2018, I was offered the job two weeks later.

What has helped my career to progress

I only realised I wanted to go into marketing in my final year, so during this last year I tried to gain as much experience as possible. However I actually found that my variety of work experience was a unique selling point which helped me to secure the role I have now.

How my studies have helped my career

Psychology has provided me with a wide variety of skills; I have statistical experience as well as creative and written communication skills.

My advice to students considering work

Try and get as much experience as possible even if it doesn't seem directly relevant, the general skills you develop will still provide talking points in an interview.

My advice about working in my industry

I was applying for jobs from September of my third year right through to the April - you will send a lot of applications but it will be worth it!

Contacting me

Happy to answer questions about how I secured my role and general industry questions.

What I do

I work as part of the PR team at a marketing communications agency, this involves working on projects for a variety of brands helping them to raise awareness of their brand profile.

Skills I use and how I developed them

Communication - I spend a lot of my time liaising with the media so communication is key whether it be by email, on the phone or in person.
Time management - One of the benefits of agency work is that I get to work with lots of different brands however this does mean juggling a lot of tasks at one given time.
Creativity - whether it be writing press releases or brainstorming ideas for new projects.

What I like most

I love the company culture at Text100. the agency prides itself on its passion and collaborative nature which makes everyday enjoyable.

What I like least

time management - if there is a lot going on for a number of accounts it can sometimes be difficult knowing what to priortise.
