Management consulting is the perfect entry into professional life.
Briefly describe the organisation you work for
Deutsche Bahn AG is a German railway company, headquartered in Berlin. It is the largest railway operator and infrastructure owner in Europe, as well as the second largest transport company in the world.
What do you do?
As an Expert HR Development, I advise HR partners, executives and other bodies on all aspects of staff development. I design and implement various personnel development measures and leadership programmes. Moreover, I am responsible for the headquarter's development budget and monitor qualification data.
Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?
After graduation, I started working as a Management Consultant for a large German management consulting company. I specialised in HR diagnostics & development projects, thereby gaining a wealth of experience in this area of expertise.
Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?
No, I've always wanted to become an HR professional.
Describe your most memorable day at work
As an HR professional, I have the pleasure of working with (and helping!) a lot of different people/clients every day. So every day is special :)
What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?
I completed various internships and also studied abroad (China, UK), thereby gaining international experience and also broadening my horizons.
What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?
Management consulting is the perfect entry into professional life. You can get to know different industries, clients and challenges. I strongly recommend to look out for graduate consulting schemes :)
