A day in the life of a Client Manager - Financial Planning in the United Kingdom

Briefly describe the organisation you work for
Wealth management firm providing expertise on wealth and investment management, pensions, tax and estate planning strategies.
What do you do?
Within the role, I support our Financial Planners whilst having day to day responsibility for a bank of clients and will be expected to proactively manage and build relationships with the client, whilst providing support and planning for key areas of the financial planning process.
Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?
I worked as a Mortgage Adviser straight after University. My previous role was a Chartered Tax Adviser for an Accountancy firm where I was part of their graduate scheme studying for the ACA/CTA programme. I wanted to widen the scope of work I was involved in which led me to Wealth Management.
Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?
I worked in the Finance industry since graduating in 2013 and this was always where I wanted to work. I found that my Mathematics and Finance degree fed into my various job roles.
Describe your most memorable day at work
There are a lot of memorable days at work and they are mostly about giving a great service to clients. Completing the ACA/CTA was also a memorable event!
What’s your work environment and culture like?
Our current work environment is great. Work life balance is really encouraged.
What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?
I was involved in the Boxing society which helped build discipline.
What would you like to do next with your career?
Use my experience and knowledge to help individuals manage their wealth so that they can enjoy their life without worrying about their finances.
What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?
Persevere on applying to the career you want to be in.
