I work for Yonsei University in South Korea.
What do you do?
I am a history professor.
Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?
I completed postgraduate and doctoral degrees at the University of London. I then taught and researched in British higher education institutions for a few years before taking up the position at Yonsei.
Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?
No, I was interested in teaching and research as an undergraduate.
Describe your most memorable day at work
Hmm, that's hard to answer: as an academic you have a lot more freedom to decide what you would like to do with your time, so there may be many memorable days.
What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?
The degree in history is itself filled with 'transferable skills', which I only realized later.
What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?
Be flexible, seek out the advice of people working in areas that interest you, learn how to position yourself in the market to be the right candidate for the job that you want.
