A day in the life of a Chief Business Officer in France
My work allows me to work in all the three subjects I studied at York, as it is right in the crux of international relations with so many economic, social, political variables
Briefly describe the organisation you work for
INSTEX was created by the E3 governments of France, the UK and Germany in the backdrop of the JCPOA, the nuclear deal with Iran, as a way to enable European businesses to continue their legitimate trades with Iran in compliant sectors.
What do you do?
I liaise with businesses interested in using the mechanism, as well as with chambers of commerce, embassies, and associations who all play a key role in the revival of legitimate trades
Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?
My job allows me to work in all the three subjects I studied at York, as it is right in the crux of international relations with so many economic, social, and - most notably - geopolitical variables
Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?
No, it is exactly what I was looking for!
Describe your most memorable day at work
Travelling to Iran and meeting with numerous European embassies
Are there any challenges associated with your job?
Hundreds
What’s your work environment and culture like?
Small team culture, everyone with a passion to push for our shared goals and European sovereignty
What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?
I was in the UoY first women team at volleyball. The most valuable transferable skills learnt are teamwork, grit, and passion.
What would you like to do next with your career?
Potentially working for an international organisation, especially in international development and aid
What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?
Your first job might not be your ultimate favourite, but it might be a stepping stone for it
What topics from students are you happy to answer questions on?
Career choices, interviews
