Briefly describe the organisation you work for
An Inner London Council.
What do you do?
I currently work as a Deputy Superintendent Registrar at a London Council. I also have five years of experience in Electoral Services, and prior experience as a Visiting Lecturer for Sociology and as a private tutor for A Level stduents.
Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?
Casual work experience and the willingness to be seconded lead me to my most recent roles.
Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?
I considered teaching, but fell into local government work upon moving to London.
Describe your most memorable day at work
23 June 2016 (EU Referendum), in Electoral Services.
What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?
Music societies, exercise classes, Nightline and York Students in Schools. York Award.
What would you like to do next with your career?
Study for a PhD
What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?
Study for a Masters and be prepared to move for work.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?
I have also completed a Masters in Sociology at the University of Manchester and a PGCE at the University of Bolton.
