Briefly describe the organisation you work for
London Business School. The number two Business School in Europe
What do you do?
I have been in the fundraising team at London Business School since January 2020. Prior to that I worked for Acumen, a not for profit impact fund focused on tackling poverty in the global south. Most of my work is engaging High and ultra high net worth funders to support our work. Also working with large global companies to create partnerships which including philanthropy and executive education.
Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?
Fundraising in higher education is a mix of sales, marketing and having a good knowledge of the education landscape. This links well with my previous roles. I also really enjoy the consultative element of the role where I'm helping wealthy families decide how much they want to give and what causes really matter to them.
Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?
I didn't have a clue what i wanted to do
Describe your most memorable day at work
My role is externally facing. I love meeting new people, understanding what makes them tick and trying to get them supporting projects at LBS. I also really enjoy working with students who are developing new business ideas and supporting them as they take those ideas to market.
Are there any challenges associated with your job?
Covid and virtual working. Can't wait to get back..
What’s your work environment and culture like?
Very supportive. We're a team of 12 and work really well together, even in a virtual environment.
What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?
Rock climbing, canoeing. In terms of skills probably having the chance to meet and learn from far more people than I would have done otherwise.
What would you like to do next with your career?
Probably move roles in 5 years and then work either for a cultural institution or a big wildlife charity - Then retire :-)
