A day in the life of a Founder in the United Kingdom

Take risks, ask questions, take yourself away from your comfort zone...

Briefly describe the organisation you work for

I founded Montaj Digital a few months after graduating from the University of York. Montaj Digital is a full-service digital marketing agency dedicated to helping businesses harness the power of the digital landscape to achieve their goals, providing tailored solutions to drive revenue and growth.

What do you do?

Servicing our clients, managing my team and building my business.

Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?

Founding Montaj was my first 'proper' job after graduating. My plan was always to B line for a career in investment banking and then experience entrepreneurship afterwards. However, my various work placements and formal and self-study led me down an interesting path in the digital world, which I decided to dive head first into.

Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?

Yes. I thought I'd be in the world of finance.

Describe your most memorable day at work

No one day is the same doing. I am blessed to have the opportunity to meet and work alongside owners and senior executives of interesting businesses on a daily basis.

Are there any challenges associated with your job?

Every day is a challenge. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

What’s your work environment and culture like?

When I started, I was alone in the spare room of my parent's home. Now, I have a small, agile team working from a co-working space or remotely. I also have the opportunity to travel to different countries to meet clients and industry partners.

What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?

Griff Investment Fund (Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO) and Senior Analyst), Investment & Finance Society (IFS), Economics Society (EconSoc), winner of the Santander Explore Enterprise Award, University Boxing Team & Committee Member

What would you like to do next with your career?

Continue building Montaj to being a leader in the space.

What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?

Take risks, ask questions, take yourself away from your comfort zone, work hard and never settle. Do this every single day, and you will achieve great things in life.

What topics from students are you happy to answer questions on?

Anything and everything.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?

Give me a follow on LinkedIn to learn more about myself and the business I am building.
