A day in the life of a IT Graduate Scheme / Project Management & Business Analysis in

Courses taken since graduation

None

Where I hope to be in 5 years

Aim for continued progression along either project management or business analysis path, with promotion into line management role (in the medium term) and ultimately senior management (in the long term).

My advice to students considering work

Working life is very different from university. Academic success does not automatically translate into career success. Get as much work experience as you can.

What I do

The delivery of business benefits by the appropriate application of information technology. My work involves requirements gathering and analysis, evaluation of different possible solutions and process mapping. I also spend considerable time engaged in planning activities, managing finances and working with third-party suppliers.

Skills I use and how I developed them

Previous employment in learning technologies at the University of Salford, particularly my project management experience.

Degree skills:
Limited relevance, but strong critical skills (which were part of my degree) are central to the work that I do.

Extracurricular skills:
Good mathematical ability; strong commerical awareness and problem solving skills; database, limited programming and other technical skills.

What I like most

Solving real problems and working to identify the best possible solutions, with tangible benefits.

What I like least

What would I change? Getting even more work experience sooner.
