A day in the life of a Course Leader in the United Kingdom
Courses taken since graduation
PCET (HE)
Where I hope to be in 5 years
I am starting a part-time MA in September at York. I want to progress to become a divisional manager. I also work for an examining body reviewing units.
My advice to students considering work
You need to get out there and show what you can do. Do not expect someone to give you anything, you need to prove yourself!
What I do
Course Leader for the foundation degree in Community and Public Service affiliated with Leeds Met University. I also work on the Extended Degree in Social Policy with the University of York. I teach Social Policy and Research in Social Psychology. In 2009, I became the chair for the new diploma courses in Public Services and work closely with examining bodies. I also hold exam boards with external examiners. In addition to teaching, I am currently writing the final Hons year degree which is going to validation in June 2010 at Leeds Met. I work closely with criminal justice agencies in delivery of the modules and voluntary work for students.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Degree in Applied Social Science.
Degree skills:
Applying policy in practice - particularly criminal.
What I like most
I enjoy teaching and seeing students progress.
What I like least
Hard work, a lot of the time, oh and marking!!!!
What would I change? Nothing, I have been promoted every year since I started.
