A day in the life of a Enquiries and Marketing Assistant in the United Kingdom
Courses taken since graduation
PgDip Educational Research
Where I hope to be in 5 years
Potentially I would like to work specifically in Student Recruitment.
My advice to students considering work
Don't panic if you don't have a specific path and don't panic if you do and it doesn't work out, it might take some hard work but you'll get there in the end, even if you'd never thought that it would be your 'there'.
What I do
Presenting the public face of Oxford Undergraduate Admissions, answering enquiries by phone, email and face to face. Organising open days, presenting 'Why Oxford' talks, attending regional teacher and student conferences. Liaison with other departments to maintain and produce marketing materials (website & paper), help with main UG Prospectus and related material. Line management of part time staff.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Qualifications in Educational Studies/Research, research interest in HE Admissions, student recruitment & policy.
Degree skills:
General understanding and knowledge of HE and education generally, equity in education.
Extracurricular skills:
Verbal communication skills developed through customer services roles.
What I like most
Helping people and encouraging possible Oxford candidates to apply.
What I like least
There is no route to progress without changing to another team.
What would I change? I would have completed my MSc rather than leaving with a PgDip.
